Our client contacted us to do more work for her when she moved to her new location. She had built a shed and wanted it to become the home – while still being a Shed!
When tasked with the delicate challenge of adding a conservatory and sunroom to a cherished 1860 Exeter home, we were determined to enhance its historic charm without compromising its architectural integrity. The home, rich in history and previous modifications, required a thoughtful approach to both preserve its essence and introduce modern enhancements.
Our journey with this project began when our clients approached us with a deeply rooted desire: to live sustainably within a straw bale home that was completely environmentally friendly. They had a picturesque Australian bush block, perfect for realizing their dream of an off-grid, eco-conscious lifestyle.
An architect designed bathroom renovation provided us the opportunity to “play” with some “cool toys”. And you know carpenters love toys!
The bath that had been specified was solid concrete and though we were assured 4 guys could lift it, that proved to be a bit too ambitious!
So we got in a Big Yellow Toy to pop the bath through the window opening.
This bathroom was a part of an overall renovation of the 1970’s Architect designed home, nestled in the bush in one of the Southern Villages of the Southern Highlands.
Working in the stunning escarpment location meant we enjoyed an all day serenade of native birds including Lyre Birds and Glossy Black cockatoos (which I think have the most beautiful call)
The complete renovation included removing walls to create an open plan living, dine and kitchen space. We were asked to supply and install new kitchen, dining and bar joinery which included an integrated food fridge, a wine fridge and a freezer. We also created a new ensuite, a Powder room and installed some new windows.
“We believe that a renovation should look like it was always there, or that it is what was originally intended.” This philosophy guided our extensive work on a stately double brick family home, beginning with a significant transformation of the upper floor. Initially, our team reconfigured the bedroom layout, added a new ensuite, renovated an existing bathroom, modernized the laundry, and installed fresh windows to enhance the natural light.
When our client approached us with an open-ended question about their space, “What would you recommend for this space?” we knew we had an exciting challenge ahead. They shared their passion for alfresco entertaining, envisioning a roofed terrace that complemented their plans for a backyard pizza oven. The design needed to provide year-round enjoyment without blocking winter sunlight into the home and comply with BAL19 bushfire safety regulations due to the property’s location. This challenge presented an exciting opportunity to create a versatile outdoor entertainment area that met both functional and regulatory requirements.
Nestled among towering old-growth rose eucalypts, our client came to us with plans for a unique home built right into the hillside – a multi-levelled sanctuary built into the hillside, featuring a distinct in-law suite with a separate entrance for additional income.
Nestled among a captivating garden boasting 185 varieties of roses, the home we encountered was enchanting yet visibly worn, crying out for rejuvenation. The result was a breathtakingly airy space that transformed into a magical environment as evening fell, thanks to meticulously planned lighting.
